It has been one of the most requested features of WhatsApp, as Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg explains in a post on his Facebook page…
It will soon be easier to transfer WhatsApp account from Android smartphone to iPhone. With the new feature, chats, photos, videos, and voice messages can be transferred from one device to another while remaining end-to-end encrypted, Zuckerberg promised.
WhatsApp (like Facebook and Instagram belongs to the meta group) worked with Apple for the portability function. iPhone maker integrates WhatsApp transfer into its app Move to iOS for Android devices.
Until now, data migration was only possible with great effort and required third-party software. The new functionality will now initially be activated for WhatsApp beta users, but should be available to all WhatsApp users in a few weeks, a BILD spokesperson said.
What do you need to move?
The Android smartphone from which WhatsApp data will be transferred must have at least the Android 5.0 “Lollipop” operating system installed. At least iOS 15.5 is required on iPhone.
Android device must have at least WhatsApp version 2.22.7.74 installed while iPhone must be new or factory reset. In addition, the same cell phone number must be used on the new device as on the old device.
Transfer to iOS app must be installed on your Android device. Before data transfer can begin, both devices must be connected to a charger and connected to the same WiFi network.
How is WhatsApp going?
To transfer WhatsApp data, open the Transfer to iOS app on your Android device and follow the onscreen instructions to connect to your iPhone. A page titled “Data Transfer” will appear where you can choose the information you want to transfer. Here you can select WhatsApp.
After clicking “Start”, the data is collected in WhatsApp for transfer and then the WhatsApp user account is logged out on the Android device. Next will take you back to the iOS Transfer app and after clicking Continue the data will be transferred. The two smartphones use a direct WLAN connection, and no data is sent to the Internet.
You can now install the latest version of WhatsApp (at least 2.22.10.70.) on the iPhone and import the previously transferred data. Note: The data will remain on the Android phone until WhatsApp is deleted on it or the device is completely reset to factory settings.
iPhone to Android
By the way, if you want to go the other way, i.e. switch from iPhone to Android device, you already have a few months ago The ability to take WhatsApp content with you. This requires a cable connection between the old and new device when setting up your Android device.
So far, however, this transfer only works with devices from the Samsung Galaxy family, Google Pixel models, and all new Android phones that have version 12 of the current operating system installed.
