Millions of people send a large number of messages, photos and videos every day via WhatsApp. The messaging service usually saves all data in chat logs and on your smartphone as well – unless set otherwise.
But many WhatsApp users have been collecting huge amounts of data over the years. It’s not uncommon for photos and videos to get lost in the vastness of your cell phone. Have you lost track of the huge collection of data but really want to find a recording? Then we have an important tip for you.
WhatsApp: How to find photos and videos that you thought were missing
WhatsApp developers have now built a search function through which you can find not only individual messages, but also images, GIFs, and videos. However, the procedure varies slightly depending on the operating system.

In case of Android, you have to tap on the magnifying glass in the top right corner. A search field will then open in which you can search for data by entering specific keywords. If you are now searching for a specific image, video, GIF or audio file, you can select the corresponding field below the search bar. Whatsapp then filters specifically according to the data type in question. Now if you enter a keyword you used when you sent the photo or video, you can find the recording you thought you lost.
At Apple, it’s exactly the same. However, you won’t find the search bar at the top right, but rather you’ll find it in the middle of the chats. If you click on the search bar, the desired search categories will open below. However, the whole thing only works if you also add a description when submitting the file you’re looking for. Otherwise, you’ll have no choice but to browse your files manually.
