Briton Adam Yates and Portuguese Joao Almeida once again demonstrated the dominance of the UAE team in the Swiss round. The two riders crossed the finish line together in Villars-sur-Ollon on the seventh stage after a long climb. Yates was a little early and scored his second stage win. Wilko Kelderman crossed the line fourth behind American Matthew Riccitello.
Yates had previously won the fifth stage and finished second in the shortened sixth stage, in which his teammate Almeida was the best.
Johannes Staune-Mittet began the final ascent of the Col de la Croix as leader, with riders no longer having to reach the summit because the finish line had been drawn at Villars-sur-Ollon. The Norwegian from Visma – Lease a Bike was overtaken by Austrian Felix Gall, but the classification favorite was also close. Almeida led the pack of classification riders, with Kelderman having to abandon the final stage. Riketello was also unable to keep up with the pace of the Portuguese and Britons, leaving his teammates on their own.
With 15.7 kilometers remaining in final practice on Sunday, Yates has a 31-second lead over Almeida. Colombian Egan Bernal came in third place with a time of 1.51 minutes. Kelderman is in 10th place, almost 5 minutes behind.
