According to him, this is due to the strong home base he has. No matter what happened on the street, there was love, discipline and care at home. This is something that many of his peers unfortunately lacked. When he returned to the Netherlands, he wanted to give something back to the young people who were not fortunate enough to have their cradle in such a warm place.
That’s why Peter founded a company with friends. They provided workshops at home and abroad, including in schools and youth detention centres. Sports have truly served as a way to help others achieve the best in themselves. However, Peter realized that the workshops were too one-off to make a difference. And thus the YETS Foundation was born. Nucleus? Playing basketball for two years, building a family, being socially active, and a coach who puts your development as a person above your development as a basketball player. The YETS Foundation has now been further developed from mathematical intervention to philosophy. From a small enterprise to a professional organization. And every day we help many young people who do not have a pleasant home base and need a new perspective.
Founder Peter Ottens and Dirk Overbeek, Director of Delta Hotel Vlaardingen, communicate via email and note that both organizations have similar core values. Director Dirk Overbeck; “Your team should never feel like a number, it’s a family and that’s what keeps our team so close.”
“We offer a safe and warm place for both employees and guests where you can be yourself, where you can be vulnerable, but above all, where there is room for growth in every area. Social entrepreneurship, where everyone is welcome and truly cared for.”
“And that’s exactly why it’s a good match,” Peter says. At YETS, we also believe in the power of family, the impact of passion, and creating community, just like Team Delta.
In the coming weeks, Hotel Delta will supply the entire YETS organization of 120 youth with Delta Hotel water bottles and boxes, among other items. A full team is equipped with sports bags, and all young people and their team can come and have breakfast at the hotel’s expense.
The hotel also has rooms available for meetings and team discussions. This cooperation will soon be opened and all goods will be ceremoniously displayed in cooperation with a number of council members from the region.
And according to both gentlemen, this is just the beginning of something that will become much bigger. But for now, Team Delta is proud to be able to contribute to the personal growth of these young people and the YETS Foundation. “Who is the next person we should sponsor?”
