Maybe you send a message to your favorite celebrity on Instagram. Just a direct message to tell them their hair looks great, or to respond to a video you have a clear opinion on. You might get a response later, but not from the real person.
Meta has started a test to let influencers create their own chatbots. That way, these bots can respond to the many direct messages they receive. People can see that they’re talking to an AI chatbot: this is indicated by the letters AI and a warning. That way you know you’re not talking to a real person, but it’s also a way for Meta to cover itself up. The warning also indicates that the AI might say things that are inaccurate or inappropriate.
Direct Message with a Celebrity in AI
The solution is now being tested among various influencers in the US. Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg says: “We’re running an early test in the US of our AI Studio, so you can start seeing AI from your favorite creators and interest-based AI on Instagram in the coming weeks. For now, these will primarily be seen in messages and will be clearly labeled as AI. It’s early days and early beta for these AI systems, so we’ll continue to work on improving them and making them available to more people soon.”
Wasted and Don Allen Stephenson III, among others, have enabled this chatbot, which you can talk to from the Netherlands. This is just the tip of the iceberg. Zuckerberg has already said that he hopes there will be many different AI chatbots, so that everyone has a chatbot that suits their different interests. The influencer could also create a chatbot that isn’t a copy of themselves at all: they could also focus it very much on one thing. We’ll have to wait and see how popular it is before we see it in more places.
More AI and never miss a thing with our bright app.
